How 10,000 mangrove saplings are strengthening climate resilience and coastal communities
Six months ago, we planted hope. Today, a greener and more resilient future is taking root.
In February 2026, Live4Help Foundation, with CSR support from Eastman India, planted 10,000 native mangrove saplings in the Sundarbans of West Bengal. The initiative aims to restore vulnerable riverbanks, protect coastal communities and build long-term resilience to climate change.
The Journey So Far
🌱 February 2026 – Plantation Begins
Native saplings were transported by boat to the remote site, where local communities and volunteers prepared the land, installed protective fencing and planted across vulnerable riverbank areas.
10,000 saplings planted to help create a greener, stronger coastline.
🌿 May 2026 – First Review
Three months later, Live4Help Foundation leaders reviewed the site. Despite demanding coastal conditions, the young mangroves showed healthy establishment, encouraging survival and visible growth.
Early monitoring confirmed promising survival and growth.
🌳 August 2026 – Thriving After the Monsoon
After months of heavy rain and seasonal flooding, local volunteers returned on August 25 to assess the plantation. Most saplings had survived and grown significantly, visibly transforming the site into an emerging green ecosystem.
In six months, fragile saplings have begun forming a natural green shield for the Sundarbans.
Why This Matters
Mangroves are a vital frontline defense against climate change. They:
· Protect coastlines from erosion and storm surges
· Provide habitat for biodiversity and support fisheries
· Capture and store significant amounts of carbon
· Strengthening the resilience and livelihoods of coastal communities
The progress achieved in only six months shows how focused environmental action, strong partnerships and local participation can deliver visible, lasting impact.
The Work Continues
Long-term restoration depends on sustained care. Live4Help Foundation continues to monitor the site, replace damaged saplings, repair fencing and maintain the plantation so the mangroves can mature into a self-sustaining ecosystem.
🤝 Join the Next Phase
Supported by Eastman India, this initiative demonstrates how responsible CSR investment can create measurable environmental and community value. Live4Help Foundation welcomes corporate partners to support future plantation and maintenance phases and help expand climate resilience across the Sundarbans.
