A community effort for coastal resilience
As part of Aranya Saptaha, also known as Forest Week, Live 4 Help Foundation strengthened its environmental sustainability mission through a mangrove restoration initiative at Baro Sehera, Sandeshkhali I, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. During the week of 20 July, L4H planted 3,000 native mangrove saplings adjacent to the location where 5,000 saplings had been planted in March 2025. This year’s activity focused both on caring for the earlier plantation and expanding new mangrove coverage to support long-term coastal resilience in the Sundarban region.
Native species selected for the landscape
The plantation included indigenous mangrove species such as Sundari, Bain, Kakra, Garjan, Golpata and Dhuldhul. These species were selected for their adaptability and their important role in protecting fragile coastal ecosystems, supporting biodiversity and stabilizing mangrove habitats.
Why mangroves matter
Mangroves are a vital natural defense for climate-sensitive coastal communities. They help reduce erosion, absorb carbon, preserve biodiversity and protect livelihoods from the rising impact of storms, flooding and river currents. Through this initiative, L4H continues to promote nature-based solutions that create long-term ecological and community value.
CSR support and on-ground implementation
The project was generously supported by ABS Professional India Pvt. Ltd. under its Corporate Social Responsibility program. L4H sincerely acknowledges Mr. Kaushik Bhattacharya for his leadership in enabling this collaboration and for his continued encouragement of sustainable community impact. L4H also recognizes the dedicated efforts of Dr. Animesh Mandal and the on-ground implementation team (Mr. Dijen Das, Mr. Malay Mandal, Mr. Bahbotosh Mandal, Mr. Ranjit Sarkar), whose coordination, community engagement and field support were essential to the success of the plantation drive.
Care beyond plantation day
Post-plantation care remains central to the program. L4H will continue regular monitoring, replacement of damaged saplings and repair of protective fencing affected by river currents and extreme weather to improve sapling survival and ensure measurable environmental impact.
Invitation to future partners
Live 4 Help Foundation welcomes corporate partners to support future phases of its mangrove restoration program through CSR sponsorships. Continued collaboration can help expand plantation coverage, strengthen long-term maintenance, and build lasting resilience across vulnerable coastal regions of the Sundarbans.
Nature-based solutions can create long-term ecological and community value when plantation is matched with sustained maintenance and local engagement.
